Pokémon Pokopia 2026
Pokémon Pokopia is a social simulation game developed by Game Freak and Koei Tecmo's Omega Force and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch 2. It serves as a spin-off within the main Pokémon series. The game features a Ditto character that uses its transformation ability to mimic humans, helping to rebuild the post-apocalyptic environment and supporting other Pokémon it encounters.
The concept originated with Shigeru Ohmori, director of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, who considered how much fans would enjoy creating their own Pokémon habitats. Developer Game Freak collaborated with Omega Force due to the latter’s expertise in sandbox games, especially Dragon Quest Builders 2. The game launched globally on March 5, 2026.
Upon release, Pokopia garnered strong critical acclaim, becoming one of the top-reviewed games of 2026 and the highest-rated Pokémon title on Metacritic. Critics praised its gameplay and visual style, often comparing it to Minecraft, Viva Piñata, and Animal Crossing in terms of atmosphere and design.
A paid three-part expansion pack is planned for the game. The first segment, Bubbly Basin, launched in August 2026, with the remaining two parts scheduled for late 2026 and 2027.
