Directive 8020 2026
Directive 8020 is a 2026 interactive drama and survival horror video game developed and published by Supermassive Games. It serves as the fifth entry in The Dark Pictures series. Set aboard a colony spaceship named Cassiopeia, the story begins when the crew experiences a crash landing on Tau Ceti f, a planet 12 light-years away from Earth. Players face a shapeshifting alien menace that threatens their survival. Lashana Lynch portrays astronaut and co-pilot Brianna Young, being promoted as the game's main actress. The release occurred for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on 12 May.
Directive 8020 utilizes a multilinear narrative structure where choices affect story direction and character dynamics among five playable characters; certain decisions result in permanent character deaths. A new system named Turning Points enables players to revisit key moments or pivotal decisions within the game.
Reviews from critics were mixed. Praise was given for visual enhancements, audio design, the "Turning Points" feature, and overall gameplay improvements compared to prior titles. However, criticisms focused on stealth mechanics and certain gameplay segments, along with a divisive storyline.
