Shovel Knight Dig is a 2022 roguelite platform game made by Nitrome and Yacht Club Games and distributed by Yacht Club Games. It belongs to the Shovel Knight series and serves as a prequel to the first game in the franchise. Players control Shovel Knight as he battles foes and gathers loot while moving deeper into a hole in search of his stolen treasure bag. If the player dies, all progress is lost and they must return to the surface with only a portion of their collected treasure. At the top level, players can use treasure to buy helpful items that improve gameplay.
Yacht Club Games had grown tired from working on the Shovel Knight series for multiple years and chose to hand over development duties to mobile studio Nitrome. Both teams envisioned Shovel Knight Dig as an arcade-style experience where movement is constantly downward. The developers referenced Downwell as a key early influence and also took inspiration from Spelunky and Dig Dug.
Shovel Knight Dig was made available for Windows, Nintendo Switch, and iOS and tvOS via Apple Arcade on September 23, 2022. Critics responded positively to the game's level design, boss battles, visuals, and soundtrack. Some reviewers criticized the roguelike mechanics, considering them an unnecessary change. A free DLC named Fate and Fortune came out for iOS and PC on March 17, 2023. Another free DLC titled Wicked Wishes launched on May 15, 2025 with versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
