Pokémon Legends: Arceus 2022
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a 2022 action role-playing game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo Switch. It marks the eighth generation of the Pokémon video game series and acts as a prequel to the fourth-generation titles Pokémon Diamond and Pearl (2006). The game was initially revealed during the Pokémon 25th Anniversary event in February 2021, and officially launched worldwide on 28 January 2022.
The gameplay follows a protagonist who is transported back in time to explore the Hisui region, which mirrors Hokkaido during early Japanese colonization. The experience focuses on traversing multiple open areas filled with Pokémon, with the primary goal being to complete the Pokédex by catching every creature. Pokémon Legends: Arceus achieved commercial success, selling over 14.83 million units by 31 March 2023. It also received critical acclaim, earning generally positive reviews and being nominated for several end-of-year awards, including Best RPG at The Game Awards 2022. A follow-up title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, was released in 2025.
