Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2022
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an original net animation (ONA) miniseries crafted by Rafał Jaki. The Polish video game developer CD Projekt Red and the Japanese studio Trigger jointly produced the show, which debuted on Netflix on September 13, 2022. The series exists within the Cyberpunk universe designed by Mike Pondsmith, serving as a self-contained continuation to the video game Cyberpunk 2077, occurring between 2075 and 2076. It centers on David Martinez, a youth living in Night City's criminal underbelly who turns to being an edgerunner—a cybernetically augmented outlaw also referred to as a cyberpunk.
The anime garnered widespread critical praise for its storytelling, character development, action sequences, animation quality, musical score, and immersive world design. Upon its release, it ranked within Netflix's top ten list during its initial week. This recognition helped reshape perceptions of Cyberpunk 2077, leading to a notable rise in both game sales and player engagement after the anime’s launch. A separate sequel series titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 was subsequently aired on October 20, 2026.
