Masters of the Air 2024
Masters of the Air is a 2024 American war drama miniseries produced by John Shiban and John Orloff for Apple TV+. The show adapts the 2007 book by Donald L. Miller and focuses on the 100th Bomb Group, a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber unit within the Eighth Air Force stationed in eastern England during World War II. This miniseries is the third in a trilogy of companion pieces, following Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010), though it is the only one not broadcast on HBO. It marks the first production from Apple Studios in collaboration with Playtone and Amblin Television. The cast includes Austin Butler, Callum Turner, and Anthony Boyle among others. Nine episodes make up the series.
Filming started in England in 2021 but faced delays due to government restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Premiering on January 26, 2024, Masters of the Air garnered favorable reviews for its acting, character depth, and intense battle scenes. It earned three nominations at the 76th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, taking home one win.
