It – Welcome to Derry 2025
It – Welcome to Derry is a 2026 American supernatural horror television series adapted from Stephen King’s 1986 novel It. This prequel connects to the 2017 and 2019 film adaptations, with the show developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, all of whom contributed to the cinematic versions. The ensemble cast features Bill Skarsgård, who also serves as executive producer and returns as Pennywise from the films.
Andy, Barbara Muschietti, and Fuchs started working on the project in March 2022. Later that November, a production commitment was secured. Fuchs and Brad Kane were then hired as showrunners, and the series was officially greenlit in February 2023. Andy Muschietti, who directed both movies, joined the team to direct several episodes, including the pilot. Casting wrapped in April, with Skarsgård cast in May 2024. Principal photography began in May 2023 but paused in July because of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike; filming resumed and concluded in August 2024.
The series debuted on HBO on October 26, 2025. Critics responded positively overall, praising direction, production design, title sequence, and acting—especially Skarsgård’s, Chris Chalk’s, and the younger actors—but noted weaknesses in writing and visual effects. A special prequel episode aired on HBO Max on October 31, 2026. In August 2026, the show was ordered for a second season expected to premiere in late 2027 or 2028.
