Seven on 7 2021
Seven on 7 is a 2021 American faux current affairs digital series. It serves as the core of multiple viral marketing efforts created by Amazon Prime Video for their streaming television series The Boys. The series uses the fictional Vought News Network (VNN)—a parody of real news outlets like Cable News Network (CNN) and Fox News—as its setting. Directed by Matt Motschenbacher, it focuses on major events between the second and third seasons of The Boys, and later expands into the spin-off Gen V.
Cameron Coleman, also known as simply Seven on 7, is presented by Matthew Edison in the first season—a parody of Tucker Carlson and J. K. Simmons' MCU portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson—who returns in the third season of The Boys. Several actors reprise roles from the show in faux interview and corporate advertising segments, while archival clips and imagery of other figures are also featured. The initial videos were released between July and December 2021, centered on the aftermath of the second season of The Boys leading into the third season and Gen V spin-off. This followed a production delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic that affected the former season.
The news program’s content is supported by extra promotional elements including in-universe web articles and social media posts. Audiences viewed the series favorably, considering it above average among viral marketing campaigns and a delightful and informative extension of The Boys universe for its fans. The Boys was developed by Eric Kripke and adapted from a comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson from DC-WildStorm/Dynamite Entertainment. A second season was shortened, with the third season and Gen V preparing for fourth season content.
