Oprah with Meghan and Harry 2021
Oprah with Meghan and Harry is a 2021 television special that aired on CBS in the United States on March 7, 2021 and on ITV in the United Kingdom the following day. The program was hosted by American media figure Oprah Winfrey and featured an interview between Winfrey, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. The special was filmed in Santa Barbara County, California, and took place a year after Prince Harry and Meghan announced their intention to leave their roles as working members of the British royal family in January 2020.
During the conversation, topics included their courtship, wedding, the gender of their second child (a girl), mental health challenges such as Meghan’s suicidal ideation, and feelings of isolation regarding emotional and financial backing. Meghan offered criticism of the monarchy as an institution. Both Harry and Meghan discussed private remarks made to Harry by someone within the royal family concerning the skin tone of their unborn son, Prince Archie. Additional subjects covered were Archie's royal title, the couple’s personal protection, Harry’s distance from his father, Charles, and brother, William, along with a brief mention of Meghan’s relationship with her own family.
The interview drew large audiences, sparked significant media coverage, and prompted varied responses from political figures. The special was considered for a 2021 Television Critics Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and a People's Choice Award.
