The Sinaloa Cartel (Spanish: Cártel de Sinaloa) is a fractured Mexican drug trafficking organization and transnational organized crime syndicate based in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. It specializes in illegal drug trafficking, money laundering, and murder. As of 2025, the cartel remains Mexico's most dominant drug cartel. The Sinaloa Cartel was originally founded as a branch (“plaza”) of the Guadalajara Cartel, co-founded by Miguel Félix Gallardo between 1978 and 1980. During Gallardo's leadership, the cartel controlled much of Mexico's drug trafficking corridors along the U.S.
