Action thriller

Ballerina is a 2025 American action thriller directed by Len Wiseman and written by Shay Hatten. It serves as a spin-off entry in the John Wick series, set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and Chapter 4 (2023). The film features Ana de Armas in the role of Eve MaCarro, a ballerina and assassin who confronts a group of killers while seeking revenge for her father’s death. Supporting roles are played by Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick (his final screen appearance), Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, and Keanu Reeves.

Work on a fifth John Wick movie commenced in 2017, following Hatten's creation of a spec script for a spin-off, with Hatten also contributing to the third and fourth films. Wiseman was named director in October 2019, while Chad Stahelski, the franchise’s usual director, returned as producer. Casting started in April 2022 and concluded by December, with de Armas, Byrne, and Reedus becoming part of the cast, and Huston, Reddick, McShane, and Reeves reprising their roles. Composer Tyler Bates, a regular in the franchise, along with Joel J. Richard, returned to compose Ballerina’s score. Principal photography began in November 2022 and concluded in January 2023, primarily in Prague and Budapest, with reshoots occurring in February 2024.

The film premiered theatrically in the United States through Lionsgate on June 6, 2025, a year later than its initial planned release date. Critics responded positively to Ballerina, and it earned $140.2 million globally against a $90 million production budget.
