Firestarter 2022
A 2022 American science fiction horror thriller film, Firestarter was directed by Keith Thomas and written by Scott Teems, adapting Stephen King's source material and serving as a remake of the 1984 version. Starring Zac Efron, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Sydney Lemmon, Kurtwood Smith, John Beasley (who appeared in his final film), Michael Greyeyes, and Gloria Reuben, the movie was produced by Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman under their respective Blumhouse Productions and Weed Road Pictures labels. Released in the United States on May 13, 2022 through Universal Pictures, it debuted both in theaters and on Peacock streaming service. Critics responded negatively, often calling it a downgrade from the 1984 original, and the film earned $15 million globally against its $12 million budget. John Beasley was nominated for a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress, though the nomination was withdrawn due to controversy regarding her age.
