Black Adam is a 2022 American superhero film starring Dwayne Johnson as the title character. The movie is based on the DC Comics character Teth-Adam / Black Adam and serves as a spin-off from Shazam! (2019), marking the eleventh entry in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, with screenplay credits going to Adam Sztykiel and Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. It tells the story of Teth-Adam / Black Adam, an ancient superhuman who is freed from magical confinement by a team of archaeologists. His mission is to liberate the nation of Kahndaq from the control of the crime syndicate Intergang, led by a local figure aiming to acquire an ancient and powerful relic known as the Crown of Sabbac. Supporting actors include Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, Marwan Kenzari, and Pierce Brosnan.

Dwayne Johnson was originally involved with Shazam! during early development and committed to playing the villain Black Adam in September 2014. However, following Johnson’s request, producers chose to develop a standalone film for the character. Sztykiel was brought on board in October 2017, followed by Collet-Serra joining in June 2019 with an intended release date of December 2021. That schedule was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional casting occurred over the following year, including four members of the Justice Society of America, and the script underwent rewrites by Haines and Noshirvani. Principal photography began in April and concluded in August 2021, taking place at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as in Los Angeles.

The film made its debut in Mexico City on October 3, 2022 before opening in the United States on October 21. Critics offered mixed reviews, and it underperformed financially. It earned $393 million at the box office against a production budget ranging from $190 to $260 million, making it a box-office failure.
