A 2025 American science fiction action-adventure film, The Electric State was produced and directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. Written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the screenplay draws from Simon Stålenhag's 2018 illustrated novel. Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan (who plays a dual role), Jason Alexander, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito, and Stanley Tucci, the film had its origins in plans announced in 2017, initially linked with Andy Muschietti. The Russo brothers later signed on to direct in December 2020. Universal Pictures secured distribution rights before Netflix assumed control in June 2022. Casting details emerged between June 2022 and November 2024, with principal photography held in Atlanta, Georgia during fall 2022. Budgeted at $320 million, it ranks among the most costly productions ever made. The Electric State had its premiere at Grauman's Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles on February 24, 2025, followed by a release on Netflix in March 14. Critics responded negatively, criticizing the plot and lack of fidelity to the source material, despite praise for visual effects and action scenes.
