The Reading 2023
A 2023 American supernatural horror-thriller film, The Reading marks Courtney Glaude's first feature directorial effort. Starring Mo'Nique as Emma Leeden, a recently widowed writer, the story follows her detailing family loss in her book Invasion. For promotional purposes, she participates in a staged reading with 19-year-old Chasity Sereal, who claims spiritual connection. Lee Daniels executive produced the film, also co-editing the final cut alongside Mo'Nique and her husband Sidney Hicks. This represents the first collaboration between Mo'Nique and Daniels since their 2009 work Precious. The project concludes a 14-year conflict between Daniels and Mo'Nique. The Reading debuted through BET+ on February 2, 2023.
