A 2023 American comedy-drama film, American Fiction was written and directed by Cord Jefferson in his first feature film effort. The movie is based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett. It tells the story of a dissatisfied African-American novelist and professor who creates an exaggerated satire mocking typical "black" novels. His work is mistakenly considered genuine literature, leading to widespread publication, commercial success, and critical acclaim.

Starring Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander, Leslie Uggams, Adam Brody and Keith David, the film made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8, 2023, winning the People's Choice Award. Amazon MGM Studios distributed it theatrically starting December 15, 2023, with a broader release following on December 22, 2023.

The movie earned $23 million at the box office and gathered multiple honors. The American Film Institute ranked it among the top 10 films of 2023. It also earned five nominations at the 96th Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Wright, while Jefferson was recognized for Best Adapted Screenplay.
