The Mastermind 2025
The Mastermind represents a 2025 heist production penned and helmed by Kelly Reichardt. This movie features Josh O'Connor, Alana Haim, Hope Davis, John Magaro, Gaby Hoffmann, and Bill Camp in leading roles. The narrative unfolds in 1970 as it chronicles a financially troubled family figure who devises a scheme to pilfer artwork from an outer-suburban museum during the Vietnam War era. Reichardt characterized this work as an examination of individualism's attraction versus collective responsibility's requirement. The production drew inspiration from authentic occurrences and cinematic classics, specifically referencing the 1972 Worcester Art Museum theft alongside Jean-Pierre Melville's filmography.
The motion picture debuted internationally at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 23, 2025, competing for the Palme d'Or distinction, before receiving American distribution through Mubi on October 17, 2025.
