One Battle After Another 2025
One Battle After Another represents a 2025 American epic action-comedy thriller crafted by Paul Thomas Anderson, who both wrote and produced the film. Based on the 1990 novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon, the movie features an ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti, who makes her cinematic entrance in this production. The storyline centers on a former revolutionary, now struggling with drug use, who is pulled back into conflict when a relentless counterterrorist agent reappears after a sixteen-year absence to pursue him for past misdeeds.
Anderson first considered adapting Vineland as early as the 2000s and later merged his personal narratives into the screenplay. Principal filming occurred in California between January and June 2024, utilizing VistaVision technology, marking one of the earliest uses of this format since the 1960s. After its showing on September 8, 2025, One Battle After Another was distributed in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on September 26. The production carried a budget ranging from $130 to 175 million, making it Anderson’s most costly film and a global box office success with earnings surpassing $213 million.
The film earned widespread critical acclaim and multiple honors. At the 98th Academy Awards, it received 13 nominations and claimed victories in Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Penn), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and the newly introduced Best Casting category. It also achieved one win from seven nods at the 32nd Actor Awards; three wins at the 31st Critics' Choice Awards, including Best Picture; four wins at the 83rd Golden Globes, such as Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy; and six wins at the 79th British Academy Film Awards, including Best Film. Additionally, it was recognized by the American Film Institute as one of the decade's top ten films in 2025 and collected five awards from the National Board of Review, including Best Film.
