Sports drama

F1 (known as F1 the Movie) represents a 2025 American sports drama directed by Joseph Kosinski, with a screenplay written by Ehren Kruger and a story credited to Kosinski and Kruger. The movie features Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem in leading roles. Its storyline centers on a Formula One driver who comes back after a 30-year break to help his former teammate’s struggling team avoid failure.

Work on the film started in December 2021, with Pitt, Kosinski, Kruger, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer involved; the latter group had previously worked together on Top Gun: Maverick (2022). Early in 2023, details about the supporting cast were announced prior to principal photography beginning at Silverstone in July. Additional filming occurred during Grand Prix weekends of the and World Championships, with cooperation from the FIA, the F1 regulatory organization. Real races served as the basis for racing scenes, featuring actual F1 teams and drivers such as Lewis Hamilton, who also produced the film. Hans Zimmer created the musical score, while various musicians contributed to the soundtrack.

F1 made its debut at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 16, 2025, then opened in the United States through Warner Bros. Pictures and Apple Original Films on June 27. It earned over $634 million globally, surpassing a $200-300 million budget. The film ranked as the ninth highest-grossing release of 2025, became the top-grossing auto racing movie ever, the most successful film by Apple, and the highest-earning work of Pitt’s career. Beyond critical acclaim, it received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture (winning Best Sound), and was recognized by the National Board of Review as one of the ten best films of the year.
