Animated adventureAnimated comedyFantasy
Animal Farm, alternatively titled Animal Farm: A Cautionary Tail, represents a 2025 animated satirical motion picture helmed by Andy Serkis and penned by Nicholas Stoller, drawing loosely from the 1945 novella authored by George Orwell. Featuring Seth Rogen, Gaten Matarazzo, Steve Buscemi, Glenn Close, Laverne Cox, Kieran Culkin, Woody Harrelson, Jim Parsons, Serkis, Kathleen Turner, and Iman Vellani in its ensemble cast, this production constitutes the third interpretation of Orwell's work, succeeding the 1954 animated production and the 1999 live-action television adaptation. This iteration incorporates a modified coming-of-age narrative featuring original characters including a piglet named Lucky, who serves as the central figure. The film debuted at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on 9 June 2025, followed by distribution in the United States and Canada on 1 May 2026 through Angel Studios. Critics responded negatively to the release, and the picture earned $6.5 million domestically against its $35 million production cost.
