Biographical dramaPolitical dramaWar drama
A 2017 American biographical war drama film, Thank You for Your Service follows veterans of the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment after a 15-month Iraq deployment in 2007. The story centers on their return to Fort Riley, Kansas, and their struggles with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) while adjusting to civilian life. Written and directed by Jason Hall in his debut film, the movie is based on David Finkel's 2013 non-fiction book. Finkel, a Washington Post reporter, documented these soldiers' experiences. The film stars Miles Teller, Haley Bennett, Beulah Koale, Amy Schumer, and Scott Haze. Bruce Springsteen composed the song "Freedom Cadence" for the closing credits. It premiered at the Heartland Film Festival on October 15, 2017 and opened in U.S. theaters on October 27, 2017 through Universal Pictures. Critics responded positively, especially praising Teller's acting, though the film earned just $10 million against its $20 million budget.
