A 2017 American science fiction horror film, Life was directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The movie features an ensemble cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, and Olga Dihovichnaya. In the story, a six-member crew from the International Space Station discovers evidence of alien life on Mars. As the crew investigates, they encounter a rapidly developing organism that is more intelligent and threatening than anticipated.

Development started in November 2015 when Espinosa was set to direct a space-based film by Wernick and Reese. After Paramount Pictures did not finalize the deal, Sony Pictures took over distribution and co-financed the project with Skydance in March 2016. Casting occurred in January 2016, followed by filming across France, New York City, and Vietnam between February and July. Visual effects were created by DNEG, Industrial Light & Magic, NVIZIBLE, One of Us, Outpost VFX, and Atomic Fiction.

The film debuted at South by Southwest on March 18, 2017 and opened in U.S. theaters through Sony Pictures Releasing on March 24, 2017. It garnered positive feedback from Rotten Tomatoes while receiving mixed responses from Metacritic. Worldwide earnings reached $100 million against a $58 million budget.
