Science fiction comedy

A 2017 American science fiction comedy-drama film, Downsizing is directed by Alexander Payne and written by Payne along with Jim Taylor. The movie stars Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, Hong Chau, and Kristen Wiig. It follows Paul Safranek, who chooses to have his body reduced in size through a new medical process. He moves into a settlement for tiny people after his spouse refuses to go through with the procedure. His path becomes complicated when he meets a poor activist. Principal filming started in Ontario, Canada, on April 1, 2016. The film made its debut at the 74th Venice International Film Festival on August 30, 2017, then opened in U.S. theaters via Paramount Pictures on December 22, 2017. Despite its limited success, grossing just $55 million against a budget ranging from $68 to 76 million, it earned mixed reviews. Nonetheless, it was named one of the top ten films of 2017 by the National Board of Review. Additionally, Kristen Wiig received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 75th.
