A 2017 American political drama film, Chappaquiddick is directed by John Curran and written by Taylor Allen and Andrew Logan. The movie features Jason Clarke as U.S. Senator from Massachusetts Ted Kennedy and Kate Mara as Mary Jo Kopechne, with Ed Helms, Bruce Dern, Jim Gaffigan, Clancy Brown, and Olivia Thirlby appearing in supporting roles. The story focuses on the 1969 Chappaquiddick incident where Kennedy's negligence led to an automobile accident resulting in the death of his 28-year-old passenger Mary Jo Kopechne, who became trapped inside the vehicle, along with the Kennedy family’s reaction.

Principal photography commenced in Boston during September 2016. The film was initially shown at the Gala Presentations section of the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2017 before being released in the United States on April 6, 2018 through Entertainment Studios. In the United Kingdom, it was issued under the title The Senator. Critics responded favorably, particularly noting the balanced screenplay and Clarke’s performance.
