The Equalizer 2 2018
The Equalizer 2, also known as The Equalizer II and EQ2, is a 2018 American vigilante action-thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua. This movie serves as the sequel to the 2014 film The Equalizer, which originated from a television series with the same name, and continues the story as the second part of The Equalizer trilogy. Denzel Washington stars in the main role as Robert McCall, alongside Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Ashton Sanders, Melissa Leo, and Bill Pullman. Orson Bean appears in his final film performance. The plot centers on a Marine Corps veteran and former DIA officer who embarks on a quest for vengeance after a close friend is killed.
This marks the fourth time Washington has worked with Fuqua, following Training Day (2001), The Equalizer (2014), and The Magnificent Seven (2016). It also represents Washington’s first starring role in a sequel to one of his previous films. Discussions about making a follow-up began just seven months prior to the original film's release. The official announcement came in April 2015. Principal photography started in September 2017 and took place primarily in Boston and other locations throughout Massachusetts.
The Equalizer 2 premiered in the United States on July 20, 2018 through Sony Pictures Releasing. Although it received mixed reviews, the film performed well commercially, earning $190 million globally. A third installment, The Equalizer 3, was later released on September 1, 2023.
