The Darkest Minds 2018
A 2018 American dystopian science fiction film, The Darkest Minds was directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson in her first live action feature length directorial effort. The movie was written by Chad Hodge and produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine. Starring Amandla Stenberg, Harris Dickinson, Mandy Moore, and Gwendoline Christie, the film adapts Alexandra Bracken's 2012 young adult novel of the same name. It depicts a group of children fleeing government forces after gaining superpowers from an unknown infection.
20th Century Fox acquired the novel rights on September 15, 2014, with Levy producing through his 21 Laps Entertainment production company. Two years later, on September 26, 2016, Stenberg was cast. Principal filming commenced in April 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. The film The Darkest Minds opened in the United States on August 3, 2018. Critics gave it poor reviews and it failed commercially.
