A 2018 American science fiction horror film, The Cloverfield Paradox follows an international crew of astronauts working aboard a space station who attempt to use a particle accelerator in hopes of solving Earth's energy problems. After the device malfunctions, the team finds themselves stranded when the planet seemingly disappears. This is the third installment in the Cloverfield series, succeeding Cloverfield from 10 2008 and 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016). The film was directed by Julius Onah and written by Oren Uziel, with a story credited to Uziel and Doug Jung. Production was handled by J. J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber, and stars Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki, Aksel Hennie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O'Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo, and Zhang Ziyi.

The project originated from a spec script titled God Particle, created by Oren Uziel. It featured the core idea of astronauts aboard a space station but had no connection to Cloverfield initially. The screenplay was acquired in 2012 by Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot. Originally intended as part of Paramount’s low-budget Insurge Pictures label, production expanded after the label closed, becoming a full Paramount release. During filming, director Abrams chose to tie the story into the Cloverfield universe, adapting Uziel’s script and incorporating new scenes that connect it to the franchise's timeline. The approach mirrored what was done with 10 Cloverfield Lane, which had been altered from its original version, The Cellar. Abrams viewed the particle accelerator incident as a way to explore narrative connections across different timelines within a larger multiverse.

The film was first announced in late 2016 under a placeholder name. Its release was delayed multiple times before finally arriving on Netflix. A surprise trailer debuted during Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018, revealing the title and confirming its release date. The distribution rights were purchased by Netflix from Paramount, with the film launching immediately after the game. Though its promotional strategies garnered praise, audience reception was mixed, with critics labeling it as the weakest of all Cloverfield films.
