Action thrillerDisaster

A 2018 American action thriller film, Skyscraper stars Dwayne Johnson as a former FBI agent who must save his family from the world's tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong after terrorists ignite the building to force the developer into paying a ransom. The movie was written, produced, and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, with co-stars including Neve Campbell, Chin Han, Roland Møller, Noah Taylor, Byron Mann, Pablo Schreiber, and Hannah Quinlivan.

This marks the second time Thurber and Johnson have worked together, following their previous project Central Intelligence in 2016. The film's development began in May 2016 when Legendary Entertainment secured rights to a Chinese-set action adventure. Johnson was chosen for the lead role, while Thurber took on the responsibilities of writer, director, and producer. Flynn produced the project through his Flynn Picture Company, with distribution handled by Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions and Universal Pictures. Principal photography started in August 2017 in Vancouver, with additional scenes filmed in Hong Kong.

The movie had its premiere in Beijing on July 2, 2018 before opening in the United States on July 13. It earned $304 million worldwide against a $125 million million budget. Critics gave the film mixed reviews, appreciating Johnson's performance and suspenseful sequences but finding fault with the storyline and noting its resemblance to films such as The Towering Inferno (1974) and Die Hard (1988).
