Sherlock Gnomes is a 2018 animated mystery comedy film directed by John Stevenson. It serves as a sequel to Gnomeo & Juliet from 2011 and uses the detective character Sherlock Holmes as its foundation. James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Ashley Jensen, Matt Lucas, Stephen Merchant, and Ozzy Osbourne return in their original roles, while Johnny Depp, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mary J. Blige, and Jamie Demetriou are added to the cast. The story centers on garden gnomes Gnomeo and Juliet who enlist gnome detective Sherlock Gnomes to locate missing ornaments in their new London garden.
The movie premiered in the United States on March 23, 2018 and in the United Kingdom on May 11, 2018. Critics gave it largely unfavorable reviews, and it failed to earn significant box-office returns, making only $97.5 million compared to its production cost of $59 million.
