Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is a 2018 jukebox musical romantic comedy film that was written and directed by Ol Parker, based on a story by Parker, Catherine Johnson, and Richard Curtis. This movie serves as both a sequel and prequel to the 2008 film Mamma Mia!, which itself was adapted from the 1999 eponymous musical using music from ABBA. The ensemble cast includes Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Colin Firth, Andy García, Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters, Cher, Meryl Streep, Alexa Davies, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Josh Dylan, Jeremy Irvine, and Hugh Skinner. The story unfolds after the events of the first film and incorporates flashbacks to Donna’s youth in 1979, with some scenes from both time periods echoing one another.

Following the strong financial performance of the original, Universal Pictures had been eager to develop a follow-up. The project officially debuted in May 2017, with Parker brought on to write and direct. In June 2017, most of the original cast confirmed their return, and James was cast as Young Donna that July. Principal photography occurred between August and December 2017 across Croatia—particularly Vis—Bordeaux, Stockholm, Oxford, Hampton, and Shepperton Studios. As a joint British and American production, the film was co-produced by Playtone, Littlestar Productions, Perfect World Pictures, and Legendary Entertainment.

The film premiered at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on 16 July 2018 and opened in the United Kingdom and United States on 20 July 2018, exactly ten years to the week after its predecessor's release, in both standard and IMAX formats. Critics responded favorably, viewing it as an upgrade from the first movie, especially highlighting the acting and musical elements. The film proved commercially successful, earning $482 million globally.
