Biographical dramaCrime drama

A 2018 American biographical crime film, Gotti focuses on the life of New York City mobster John Gotti. The movie was directed by Kevin Connolly and written by Lem Dobbs and Leo Rossi. John Travolta portrays Gotti, while his actual spouse Kelly Preston plays Victoria, Gotti’s wife, in what would be her final film appearance.

Development of the project began in 2010, but it faced prolonged delays over several years. Multiple directors and actors were attached at various points, including Barry Levinson and Al Pacino. Principal photography commenced in July 2016 in Cincinnati, Ohio, before wrapping up in Brooklyn, New York, in February 2017. Originally scheduled for release in the United States on December 15, 2017, Lionsgate, the intended distributor, returned the film to its producers and studio, causing further delays.

The final release date was confirmed on March 12, 2018 by SunRider Productions and Vertical Entertainment after the film premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. Gotti was eventually released in the United States on June 15, 2018. Critics widely disliked the movie, pointing to flaws in the screenplay, acting, and historical accuracy, although John Travolta's portrayal earned modest recognition. The film is regarded as one of the worst ever made, holding only a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Commercially, it was a failure, earning just $6.4 million against a $10 million budget. At the 39th Golden Raspberry Awards, it received six nominations, including Worst Picture and Worst Actor for John Travolta.
