Assassination Nation 2018
Black comedyComedy horrorCrime comedy
A 2018 American satirical black comedy horror thriller film, Assassination Nation was written and directed by Sam Levinson. The movie features an ensemble cast including Odessa Young, Suki Waterhouse, Hari Nef, and Abra. Set in the fictional town of Salem, the story unfolds as chaos and violence erupt when a computer hacker exposes private information about many residents.
The film's development started in October 2016 with Foxtail Entertainment announcing it as their first independent project. Casting took place during 2017, followed by principal photography beginning in March 2017 in New Orleans. Later, Neon purchased the film rights for Gozie AGBO, subsequently joined by 30West and Refinery29.
Assassination Nation premiered worldwide at the Sundance Film Festival on January 21, 2018 and opened theatrically in the United States on September 21. The film earned $2.8 million globally. Critics responded positively to its "frenetic and visually stylish" sequences but noted that character development was weak.
