A 2018 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics, Ant-Man and the Wasp features Scott Lang / Ant-Man and Hope Pym / Wasp. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it follows Ant-Man (2015) and serves as the 20th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Directed by Peyton Reed, the movie was written by teams including Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, and Paul Rudd, Andrew Barrer, Gabriel Ferrari. Paul Rudd portrays Lang, while Evangeline Lilly plays Hope van Dyne. Supporting cast includes Michael Peña, Walton Goggins, Hannah John-Kamen, David Dastmalchian, Tip "T.I." The plot involves the main characters teaming up with Hank Pym (Douglas) to rescue Janet van Dyne (Pfeiffer) from the Quantum Realm.
Discussion for a follow-up to Ant-Man started soon after its release. Official announcement of Ant-Man and the Wasp came in October 2015, with Rudd and Lilly confirmed to return. One month later, Reed was named as director, having joined the first movie during production. He expressed enthusiasm about creating this sequel from scratch, and emphasized making Lang and Hope equal characters. Principal photography ran from August through November 2017 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayette County, Georgia, and various locations including Metro Atlanta, San Francisco, Savannah, Georgia, and Hawaii.
The film premiered globally in Hollywood, Los Angeles on June 25, 2018, and opened in the United States on July 6, 2018 as part of Phase Three of the MCU. Critics acclaimed its acting—especially Rudd and Lilly's—along with its humor and light tone. It earned over $622 million worldwide. A continuation titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania appeared in February 2023.
