A Star Is Born is a 2018 American musical romantic drama film that was produced and directed by Bradley Cooper in his first time behind the camera, with a screenplay he wrote alongside Eric Roth and Will Fetters. The main roles are played by Cooper and Lady Gaga, while Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chappelle and Sam Elliott appear in supporting parts. The story centers on Jackson Maine (Cooper), an experienced musician dealing with alcoholism and addiction, who meets and falls in love with a rising singer Ally (Gaga) whose career starts to surpass his own. This version is the third adaptation of the 1937 original, after the 1954 and 1976 films.

The film went through an extended development phase, with several directors and actors involved before Cooper stepped in as director. Principal filming started in April 2017; the production focused on realism by using actual music festivals for concert scenes, live vocals, and a close-up visual approach that kept the camera near the performers. The original soundtrack was created during the writing process, with songs composed and adjusted throughout production to match the characters' emotional arcs. A Star Is Born made its debut at the 75th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2018, and opened in U.S. theaters on October 5 through Warner Bros. Pictures.

The movie was both critically acclaimed and financially successful, earning $439.9 million globally against a $36 million budget. Reviewers especially highlighted Cooper’s direction and the strong performances and connection between Cooper and Gaga, while also noting the cinematography, music, and Elliott’s supporting role. The soundtrack also did well, becoming one of the top-selling albums worldwide in 2019 and generating the single "Shallow", which reached number one in several countries. The film received eight nominations at the 91st Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Cooper, Best Actress for Gaga, and Best Supporting Actor for Elliott, winning the award for Best Original Song for "Shallow". It also earned nods and awards from the Golden Globe Awards, BAFTAs, and Grammy Awards, and has since been recognized in retrospective lists of top musicals, romance films, and remakes.
