The King of Staten Island 2020
A 2020 American black comedy-drama film, The King of Staten Island, was produced and directed by Judd Apatow who also wrote the screenplay with Pete Davidson and Dave Sirus. Davidson stars alongside Marisa Tomei, Bill Burr, Bel Powley, Maude Apatow, and Steve Buscemi. The story centers on a young man navigating life after his mother begins dating someone reminiscent of his late father, a firefighter.
The project was revealed as Apatow's upcoming work in early 2019, with principal photography occurring in New York City during June and July. This semi-biographical film draws from Davidson’s personal history; his father died during the September 11 attacks, and Davidson has dealt with mental health challenges.
Though initially planned for theatrical release in the U.S., the film premiered on premium video on demand on June 12, 2020 through Universal Pictures. Critics responded favorably to the movie.
