A 2020 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film, The Half of It was written, directed, and co-produced by Alice Wu. Starring Leah Lewis, Daniel Diemer, and Alexxis Lemire, with Enrique Murciano, Wolfgang Novogratz, Catherine Curtin, Becky Ann Baker, and Collin Chou in supporting roles, it draws loose inspiration from Edmond Rostand's 1897 play Cyrano de Bergerac. The story centers on a Chinese-American student who helps a jock classmate pursue a girl they both secretly admire.
Released worldwide on Netflix in May 1, 2020, the film garnered favorable critical reception. Critics highlighted Wu's direction and screenplay, along with performances by Lewis and Diemer. At the 19th Tribeca Film Festival, it earned the Founders Award for Best U.S. Narrative Feature. Additionally, Wu received a nomination for Best Screenplay at the 36th Independent Spirit Awards.
