A 2020 science fiction action film, Tenet is the work of Christopher Nolan, who wrote and directed it while also producing alongside his wife, Emma Thomas. The movie features John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh in key roles. It tells the story of a CIA operative drawn into a covert group responsible for tracking items moving backward in time and connecting them to an assault from the future.

Christopher Nolan spent over a decade considering the core concepts of Tenet before beginning screenplay development, which took five years to complete. Production started in late March 2019, with principal filming occurring across several countries over six months. Filming was delayed by the global 19 pandemic, leading to its release in the United Kingdom on August 26, 2020 and in the United States on September 3, 2020. This marked Warner Bros. Pictures's final film under their distribution deal.

Tenet opened as the first major Hollywood release during the pandemic period, earning $376.6 million worldwide against a $205 million budget. Though it ranked fifth globally for 2020, it did not recover its costs. Critics responded with mixed reviews, more so than previous Nolan projects. The film earned Best Visual Effects at the 93rd Academy Awards and collected multiple other honors.
