The screenplay was written by Deborah Eisenberg, with Meryl Streep, Dianne Wiest, Candice Bergen, Lucas Hedges, and Gemma Chan in the cast. Much of the dialogue was improvised, and Soderbergh filmed aboard the Queen Mary 2 using natural light and minimal equipment. Critics gave the film generally positive reviews.
