Happiest Season 2020
Romantic comedy-dramaChristmas
A 2020 American romantic comedy film, Happiest Season was directed by Clea DuVall and co-written by Mary Holland. The movie features an ensemble cast including Kristen Stewart, Mackenzie Davis, Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza, Daniel Levy, Holland, Victor Garber, and Mary Steenburgen. It tells the story of a young woman navigating the challenge of revealing her lesbian identity to conservative parents during a Christmas visit with her girlfriend. The semi-autobiographical project draws from DuVall's personal experiences with family dynamics. This film marks the first lesbian Christmas rom-com produced by a major Hollywood studio. TriStar Pictures, Entertainment One, and Temple Hill Entertainment handled production duties. It premiered in the United States on November 25, 2020 through Hulu. Critics responded positively, especially praising the acting performances. In 2021, the film earned a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film – Wide Release.
