War drama

A 2020 American war film, Greyhound is directed by Aaron Schneider and stars Tom Hanks, who also wrote the screenplay. Based on the 1955 novel The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester, it centers on a US Navy commander’s first command of a multi-national escort destroyer group of four, as he defends an Allied convoy from U-boats during the Battle of the Atlantic. Supporting cast includes Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, and Elisabeth Shue.

Originally set for a theatrical release in the United States on June 12, 2020 by Sony Pictures Releasing, the film’s release was postponed and later canceled due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sony later sold distribution rights to Apple TV+, which made the film available digitally on July 10, 2020. Critics responded positively, especially praising the action sequences and effective use of its 90-minute runtime. At the 93rd Academy Awards, Greyhound received a nomination for Best Sound.
