Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), also titled Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey or simply Birds of Prey, is a 2020 American superhero film rooted in the DC Comics group known as the Birds of Prey. The movie was directed by Cathy Yan and penned by Christina Hodson. It marks the eighth entry in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) and acts as both a spin-off and follow-up to Suicide Squad from 2016. The cast features Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, alongside Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Rosie Perez, Chris Messina, Ella Jay Basco, Ali Wong, and Ewan McGregor. The storyline centers on Harley Quinn, who after parting ways with the Joker, faces danger from Gotham City's crime boss Roman Sionis. In response, she teams up with Helena Bertinelli, Dinah Lance, and Renee Montoya—forming the Birds of Prey—to rescue Cassandra Cain.

Robbie, also serving as producer, introduced the concept for Birds of Prey to Warner Bros. Pictures back in 2015. The film's announcement occurred in May 2016, followed by Hodson being selected to write the screenplay that November. Yan was then brought on board to direct in April 2018. Most of the main cast and crew were confirmed by December 2018. Principal photography took place from January through April 2019 in Downtown Los Angeles, parts of the Los Angeles Arts District, and at Warner Bros. Studios soundstages in Burbank, California. Additional filming was done in September 2019.

The film premiered worldwide in Mexico City on January 25, 2020, before its U.S. release on February 7 in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, ScreenX, and 4DX formats. Critics generally responded favorably to the movie, though it underperformed financially, earning $205.5 million globally and missing its projected break-even point of $250–300 million. By November 2020, Birds of Prey had generated $31.2 million in domestic video sales.
