Comedy-drama

A 2020 American comedy-drama film, An American Pickle follows Seth Rogen as an Eastern European Jewish immigrant who ends up preserved in a pickle vat and awakens a hundred years later in contemporary New York City. The story was adapted by Simon Rich from his 2013 short tale "Sell Out," and the film was directed by Brandon Trost in his first solo effort. Brandon Trost also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Simon Rich. The protagonist attempts to adjust to modern life with help from his last surviving relative, played by Rogen himself.

Sony Pictures originally planned the release, but rights were later transferred to Warner Bros. Pictures in April 2020. It premiered digitally in the United States on August 6, 2020, marking HBO Max's first original film. The following day, it opened in theaters across the United Kingdom. Critics offered mixed reactions, although Rogen’s dual role received recognition. The movie eventually became available through video-on-demand platforms for both rental and purchase.
