The Medium 2021
A 2021 Isan-language pseudo-documentary supernatural folk horror film, The Medium (Rang Song, literally: Mediumship), was co-written and produced by Na Hong-jin and directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun. This co-production between Thailand's GDH 559 and South Korea's Showbox had its premiere at the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival on 11 July 2021. It opened in theaters across South Korea on 14 July 2021. The film was chosen as Thailand’s submission for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards but did not receive a nomination. At the 25th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, it was recognized as the best feature film and received the Bucheon Choice Award for best film. According to Korean Film Council figures, it ranked 15th among all 2021 releases in South Korea, earning US$7.35 million in revenue and 831,126 admissions by 26 September 2021. It became the 6th highest-grossing Korean film of that year.
