House of Gucci 2021
A 2021 American biographical crime drama film, House of Gucci was directed by Ridley Scott and adapted from the 2001 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden. The story centers on Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga) and Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), exploring how their romance evolves into a power struggle over the Gucci fashion empire. Supporting actors include Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Jack Huston, Salma Hayek, and Al Pacino.
Director Scott became interested in the Gucci family saga after obtaining rights to Forden’s book during early 2000s. The project remained dormant for years, with multiple directors and actors considered before Scott and Gaga were officially attached in November 2019. Additional cast members joined in the summer that followed, and principal photography commenced in Italy, running from February through May 2021.
House of Gucci had its world premiere at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on November 9, 2021. It was subsequently released in the United States by United Artists Releasing on November 24, 2021. Critics offered mixed reviews, commending the acting but faulting the film’s uneven tone and editing. Lady Gaga and Jared Leto received Screen Actors Guild Award, Critics' Choice Award, and Satellite Award nominations for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor respectively, with Gaga also nominated for a Golden Globe and BAFTA. The movie was additionally nominated for an 94th Academy Award in the category of Best Makeup and Hairstyling. It earned over $153 million worldwide despite a $75 million production budget.
