A 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film, White Noise was written and directed by Noah Baumbach based on the 1985 novel by Don DeLillo. This marks Baumbach’s first feature film not adapted from his own work. Starring Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, and Don Cheadle, the story centers on a niche academic and his family living through challenges, starting with an environmental disaster near their home in the 1980s. The film premiered worldwide at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2022, followed by a limited theatrical release on November 25. It later became available for streaming via Netflix on December 30. Critics responded positively overall, commending Baumbach’s direction, cinematography, and performances—especially Driver's—but found the screenplay, tonal shifts, and runtime problematic. The score by Danny Elfman also garnered attention.
