A 2022 American superhero film, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman alongside Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. Directed by Matt Reeves and written by him with Peter Craig, the movie is a reboot of the Batman film franchise based on the DC Comics character. The story centers on Batman, in his second year of fighting crime in Gotham City, as he investigates corruption connected to his own family while hunting the Riddler (Dano), a serial killer and terrorist who targets the city's elite. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, the film was produced by Reeves and Dylan Clark for DC Films.

A Batman film for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) was announced in October 2014 with Ben Affleck portraying the title character. Affleck committed to directing, producing, and co-writing The Batman by 2016 but later had doubts about the project and withdrew in January 2017. Reeves assumed direction shortly after, reworking the narrative to remove DCEU ties and present a younger version of Batman earlier in his career compared to Affleck's portrayal. Working with Craig and Mattson Tomlin, Reeves aimed to emphasize Batman’s detective elements, drawing from Alfred Hitchcock films, New Hollywood works, and comics such as “Year One” (1987), The Long Halloween (1996–97), and Ego (2000).

Following Affleck’s exit as lead actor in January 2019, Pattinson was cast in May, with additional actors joining later that year. Principal photography began on January 2020 and ended on March 2021, though filming paused for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production took place across the United Kingdom including England and Scotland, as well as at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Cinematographer Greig Fraser used Industrial Light & Magic's StageCraft virtual production technology, while Michael Giacchino created the soundtrack. The movie contains over 1,500 visual effects shots and ranks among the longest superhero films ever made. The Batman featured a major viral marketing campaign during and after its production.

After being delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Batman opened in the United States on March 4, 2022, three days after its premiere at Lincoln Center in New York City. Critics responded positively to Reeves's direction, Pattinson’s performance, Kravitz’s role, and the cinematography and score, although some found the tone, length, and third act problematic. The portrayal of Batman was analyzed by various commentators, along with themes dealing with class conflict and inequality. Commercially, it proved successful, earning over $772 million worldwide against a $185–200 million budget, becoming the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2022 and Warner Bros.'s top pandemic release. Its box office numbers established new records for IMAX screenings during the pandemic period. The film received three Academy Award nominations and numerous other honors. Intended to begin a trilogy and shared universe titled the "Batman Epic Crime Saga", a sequel, The Batman: Part II, is set for release on February 18, 2028, while a spin-off series starring Farrell, The Penguin, debuted on HBO in late 2024.
