Action adventure

Uncharted is a 2022 American action adventure film based on the video game franchise created by Naughty Dog and distributed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The movie was directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Rafe Lee Judkins, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway. Tom Holland plays Nathan Drake, while Mark Wahlberg portrays Victor Sullivan, with Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle (making her film debut), and Antonio Banderas appearing in supporting roles. In the story, Drake is approached by Sullivan to compete against corrupt billionaire Santiago Moncada (Banderas) and mercenary Jo Braddock (Gabrielle) in search of the legendary treasure from the Magellan expedition.

Development started in 2008 when producer Avi Arad indicated he would collaborate with Sony Pictures on adapting the video game series into a movie. The project experienced delays over the years, with several directors and writers attached at different times. Initial directors included David O. Russell, Neil Burger, Seth Gordon, Dan Trachtenberg, Shawn Levy, and Travis Knight. Early on, Wahlberg was considered for the Drake role, but Holland was cast in May 2017. Fleischer was brought on as director in early 2020. Principal photography began in March 2020, but halted due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Production restarted in July and wrapped up in October, with scenes filmed in Boston, Barcelona, New York City, and Kiamba.

The film was originally scheduled for release on December 18, 2020, though it encountered major setbacks from the pandemic. It had its premiere at the Coliseum in Barcelona on February 7, 2022, followed by a U.S. release on February 18 through Columbia Pictures (distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing). Critics gave the film mixed reviews, but it performed well financially, earning $407.1 million globally against a $120 million budget. At the time of its release, it ranked as the fourth-highest-grossing video game adaptation. A follow-up is currently in development.
