Biographical dramaIndependent

Till is a 2022 biographical drama film directed by Chinonye Chukwu and written by Michael Reilly, Keith Beauchamp, and Chukwu, and produced by Beauchamp, Reilly, and Whoopi Goldberg. It recounts the real-life story of Mamie Till, an educator and activist who sought justice following the death of her 14-year-old son Emmett in August 1955. The movie features Danielle Deadwyler portraying Mamie and Jalyn Hall as Emmett. Supporting actors include Kevin Carroll, Frankie Faison, Haley Bennett, Jayme Lawson, Tosin Cole, Sean Patrick Thomas, John Douglas Thompson, Roger Guenveur Smith, and Goldberg.

The project was officially announced in August 2020, although development had begun years earlier. The majority of the main cast signed on during the summer that followed, with principal photography occurring in Taylorsville, Ga, Cartersville, Ga, and nearby locations within Bartow County, Georgia, during the fall. This film became the second significant media adaptation inspired by Mamie Till's life released in 2022, after the television series Women of the Movement. The film pays tribute to Mamie Till’s memory and legacy, with its release timed to coincide with the October 2022 dedication of a statue honoring Emmett Till in Greenwood, Mississippi.

The film premiered worldwide at the New York Film Festival on October 1, 2022, then opened theatrically in the United States on October 14, 2022 through United Artists Releasing, and was made available in the United Kingdom on January 6, 2023 via Universal Pictures. Critics praised the film, especially Deadwyler's performance, and it was named among the best of 2022 by the National Board of Review. For her role, Deadwyler earned multiple accolades, including BAFTA, Critics' Choice, and SAG Award nominations for Best Actress. The production grossed $11 million despite having a budget of $20 million.
