A 2022 American period mystery gothic thriller film, The Pale Blue Eye was written and directed by Scott Cooper and adapted from Louis Bayard's 2006 novel. Set in 1830, it follows veteran detective Augustus Landor, played by Christian Bale, as he investigates murders at West Point Military Academy alongside Edgar Allan Poe, portrayed by Harry Melling, a young military cadet. Supporting cast includes Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney, Timothy Spall, and Robert Duvall in his final film before passing in 2026. The film premiered in select theaters on December 23, 2022 followed by streaming release on January 6, 2023 through Netflix. Reviews were mixed.
