The Mean One 2022
Black comedyIndependentSlasherChristmas
A 2022 American Christmas slasher film, The Mean One, was directed by Steven LaMorte and features a screenplay co-written by Flip and Finn Kobler. This unlicensed parody draws from Dr. Seuss's 1957 children's book How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and its various adaptations. The movie stars Krystle Martin, Chase Mullins, John Bigham, Erik Baker, Flip Kobler, and Amy Schumacher, with David Howard Thornton portraying the main villain. The story centers on a young woman trying to protect her hometown from a green-skinned killer causing chaos during the holidays.
XYZ Films announced the project in October 2022, working alongside A Sleight of Hand Productions, Amy Rose Productions and Kali Pictures during production. Since it is not authorized, the film avoids using any original book language. The Mean One opened theatrically through Atlas Film Distribution on December 9, 2022. Critics and viewers largely responded negatively to the release.
